Bengaluru south constituency MP Tejasvi Surya made a statement on twitter on the 27th of September saying Bengaluru has become an epicenter of terrorist activities.

Bangalore citizenry and netizens, in general, did not take it lightly and his tweet generated huge outrage on social media. Some took a jibe at BJP saying as BJP is ruling the state, hence terror activities might have increased.

‘In the last few years, Bluru has become epicenter of terror activities, proven through many NIA arrests & busted sleeper cells in the city. I urged Hon HM Sri @AmitShah Ji to set up a permanent division of NIA in Bluru I thank him for his assurance that it will be set up soon!’ Tejasvi Surya tweeted.

Taking strong objection to the tweet, KPCC president DK Shivakumar also tweeted-

BJP MP Tejasvi Surya calling Bengaluru, a global city known for Technology and Innovation, as an epicenter of terror is highly condemnable. GDP growth has crashed and with such statements, which investor will come to Bengaluru & Karnataka? Will PM and Finance minister Nirmala Seetharaman answer?

Congress leader Priyank Kharge too reacted and tweeted saying, ‘Would love to hear from BJP Karnataka, how many terror activities have been orchestrated in Bengaluru? What are the criteria for qualification as an ‘epicenter’?’

He also criticised the BJP further by saying  ‘Jagdish Shettar and Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will have tough time convincing investors to come to the city of terrorism.’

Congress MLA Soumya Reddy too expressed her anger by tweeting, ‘Our city have given these ppl everything & they want to ruin, defame our city for their agenda? 1.2 crore ppl are offended & will not tolerated such nonsense’ and she goes on to state that BJP is in power in centre, state and city bodies and puts the count of BJP MPs sent from the state. She then says, ‘Namma Bengaluru a #terrorHub? Wth. I take offence to that. My city is beautiful, cosmopolitan, diverse, IT/BT Hub, safe, peaceful/silicon city. I WILL NOT let a one guy tarnish the imagine of our city. Never. NO WAY. #proudofmycity

Apart from political leaders, many netizens too took to social media and expressed their outrage for Tejasvi Surya’s statement, and hashtag #ApologiseTejasvi too was started and asked Tejasvi to apologise for his remarks.

Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa has extended his support to MP Tejasvi Surya. He said, he had appealed for the NIA center to PM a few years ago and he congratulates Home minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister for getting the nod.
