‘Mallikarjun Kharge, who has worked brilliantly as opposition leader, KPCC president and central minister will be a strong voice in Rajyasabha.’ Said opposition leader Siddaramaiah.
He was speaking after filing nomination of Mallikarjun Kharge for Rajyasabha as Congress candidate. ‘He was defeated in Loksabha elections but leaders like Kharge should be there in parliament and now it has become a possibility’, he said.
Mallikarjun Kharge , his was the only name we had suggested after finalizing. High command has agreed with our suggestion and has made him Rajysabja candidate. Siddaramaiah thanked Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for it. He also reiterated that all of them have total faith in him and are sure that he will be efficient.
Mallikarjun Kharge, KPCC president DK Shivakumar, Shamanuru Shivashankarappa and others showed their support by being there during nomination filing.
BJP high command surprises Karnataka unit: Ashok Gasti and Iranna Kadadi are candidates.
BJP has selected its candidates for upcoming Rajyasabha elections. The chosen ones are; Iranna Kadadi who is president of Belagavi district and Ashok Gasti, who is general secretary Raichur district BJP unit. Leaders of state are quite surprised by the choice of BJP high command. The BJP high command has simply rejected the names sent by state BJP and instead chose party workers.
Who are these two?
Iranna Kadadi who belongs to the powerful Lingayat community was born in 1966 and has been active in BJP since 1989. He started with BJP Yuva morcha of Arabhavi constituency and has worked as Gokak taluk BJP president and been general secretary of the Belagavi unit. He contested as BJP candidate in Arabhavi constituency and had lost to VS Kaujalagi of Congress. He was president of Belagavi rural unit of BJP in 2004 and also worked as Belagavi Zilla Panchayat and state secretary.
Ashok Gasti, who belongs to Savita Samaj community has been active BJP since long starting with its student wing ABVP and as worked as general secretary of BJP’s OBC cell.
Both belong to north Karnataka and choosing these two names are seen as a setback to Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, who was keen on fielding Ramesh Katti and another powerful person Prabhakar Kore. And both Kadadi and Gasti are seen as BL Santhosh’s confidantes and are active organisers.
