On Tuesday, the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the National Monetisation Pipeline under the initiative, the Union government expects to raise Rs 6 lakh crore over a four-year period till 2025 by privatising state-owned infrastructures.

Assets of roads, railways, and power sectors make up to 66% of the total estimated value of properties that will be monetised. The remaining will come from other sectors, including aviation, telecom, ports, warehouses, mining, stadiums, and natural gas and petroleum product pipelines.

Responding to the announcement, Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took to Twitter and criticised Prime Minister Modi and the Finance Minister, “National Monetization Pipeline is a desperate attempt by (Narendra Modi) to help his crony friends. Indians are being betrayed in the name of Nationalism,” over the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP).

The Minister further wrote that “₹6 Lakh Cr worth assets of Indians will be handed over to friends of Modi” and demanded that the BJP government must stop selling India.

The leader said that assets proposed in National Monetisation Pipeline are an important medium of communication & transportation of the common man and selling these to cronies will create a barrier for the common man to access these assets, thereby widening inequality.

“Assets held by GoI were created out of taxes paid by common man. How correct is it to sell assets to cronies who will charge a fee for common man to access the same for which he paid for? This is like paying entry fee to enter one’s own house. Unfortunate,” tweeted the Minister hitting out at the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Furthermore, he said accused the PM and the FM of ruining the Indian economy and wrote that the “duo have completely destroyed India’s economy. It may take decades to strengthen our economy to what it was in 2014. This asset mega sale spree is a myopic solution for the problems created by them.”
