Farmers across the country have begun the Republic Day Rallies. Indians will be witnessing a different Republic Day parade than what they are used to.
Farmers of this country have been fighting against the three farm laws brought in by the Narendra Modi led central government. Farmers from Punjab Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and other states have been occupying the borders of the national capital for last two months.
“Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, these three infamous reforms”, Sudha from Tamil Nadu participating in the Kisan tractor parade in Delhi says, “will destroy farming and farmers.” An elderly farmer from Punjab participating in the tractor protest spoke to Gauri Lankesh News and said the motto of these protests and parades are governed by slogans of, “Jai India! Jai Punjab! Jai Jawan (soldier)! Jai Kisan (farmer)!” The spirit of the republic day is to remind democratically elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he must listen to citizens of this country.
