SKM Legal Panel Visits Farmers in Tihar Jail, Condemns False Cases

The SKM legal panel also demanded that farmers lodged in different jails be consolidated in to single jail.

The Legal Panel of Samyukt Kisan Morcha has visited the Tihar Jail, where 112 farmers are currently lodged. It has said in its statement that it met Ranjit Singh of Kajampur Village, District Nawanshahar and Ranjit Singh of Moga district and enquired about their problems. The Panel consists of Prem Singh Bhangu, Raminder Patiala, Kiranjeet Sekhon, Inderjeet Singh ,Harpal Singh and Vikas ishar.

The team says that it has been informed that the farmers are having no problem and are safe. The statement reads, “10 farmers have been granted bail so far and five bail application have been filed. Priority is being given to the farmers who are not booked under section 307 IPC or other serious offences.” The panel is trying to provide monetary help to the jailed farmers and their family by transferring money in their bank accounts.

“It is also informed that now 16 persons are missing that is 9 from Haryana, 1 from Rajasthan and 6 from Punjab for whom active efforts are being made. SKM legal panel has strongly condemned the Delhi Govt and police for issuing notice under section 160 CRPC to the farmers in order to rope them into false cases. Farmers are informed not to be present before the police. They should immediately inform SKM leadership or the legal panel for further course of action,” the statement says.

The SKM legal panel today talked to Mr Raghav Chadda, Cabinet Minister of Delhi Government asking that farmers lodged in different jails be consolidated in to single jail,and that legal panel be allowed to meet farmers without any restrictions.
