Bengaluru: The massive unemployment crisis that India is staring at amid this economic downturn is bringing the youth to the streets. The simmering anger of youth has come out on streets in the form of sporadic protests now and then due to privatisation, lack of government jobs,non-recruitment after exams, contract jobs, and massive retrenchments.
The Modi led government ahead of the election had given assurance of generating two crore jobs annually. But contrary to the assurance of creating jobs, the people have lost existing jobs and are facing hardship while uncertainty is looming large over getting jobs in view of the high unemployment rate in the backdrop of April-June quarter GDP contracted to a historic low of -23.9 percent.
On 17th September, when the BJP and its followers celebrated PM Modi´s 70th birthday, the youth celebrated National Unemployment Day.

Hashtags like #national unemployment day, #Jumla Diwas, #17Sept 17hrs 17Minutes, #Rashtriya Berojgar Diwas were top trends on Twitter yesterday.
Some condemned that “Prime Minister instead of giving 2 crore employment every year. He has been delivering worthless speeches to the nation for six years”. Leaders of the opposition party in the state also took the occasion to hit out at the prime minister.
