Late in her court tenure, she became a social media icon, the Notorious RBG, a name coined by a law student who admired Ginsburg’s dissent in a case cutting back on a key civil rights law. In 2018, Ginsburg was the subject of a documentary and a feature film ‘On the Basis of Sex,’ in which the actor Felicity Jones portrayed her.
Her death can massively reshape the upcoming American General Elections by raising the stakes; Republican candidate Donald Trump or his challenger, Democratic Candidate Joe Biden, can now pick a successor who would have the authority to make decisions on abortion, environmental regulations and the power of the presidency for a generation.
Democrats believe that this vacancy could drive home the significance of the election to their base, many of whom were disillusioned with the party after Senator Bernie Sanders stopped campaigning, and endorsed Biden.
Many Republicans expect Trump to nominate a woman as a counterweight of sorts to Biden’s running mate Kamala Harris.
