Mandeep Punia Granted Bail by Delhi Court

Mandeep Punia was arrested on January 30.

Mandeep Punia, the freelance journalist who was under the custody of the Delhi Police for 14 days, has been granted bail.

Satvir Singh Lamba, The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, North District, Rohini Courts (Delhi) granted the bail today on furnishing a bail bond of Rs. 25000 along with one sound surety in the like amount, LiveLaw has reported.

The court noted that the ‘bail is the rule, jail is the exception’ should be respected. The Bail Application was filed on behalf of Punia by Advocates Sarim Naved, Akram Khan & Kamran Javed, LiveLaw has further noted.

Mandeep Punia was arrested on January 30 for not carrying the ID and based on a police personnel allegation that he was manhandled.

As reported by us, Mandeep Punia’s bail was rejected on Sunday, when he was not even allowed to have a lawyer. Mandeep Punia was one of the many journalists who have seen cases levelled against them who were all reporting on the Farmers Protests.
