Labour Unions Extend Support to Farmers Movement: Thousands of Teachers Reach Tikri Border

Thousands of teachers led by Democratic Teachers’ Front of Punjab reached Tikri Border yesterday. Apart from this, in several places, local protests at corporate house outlets, toll plazas and other locations continue.

In Punjab, in more than 100 places, such pucca morchas (semi permanent fronts) are continuing, completing more than 250 days in many places.

Central Trade Unions representing millions of workers extend support to “Save Agriculture, Save Democracy” Day on 26th June 2021

The Joint Platform of Central Trade Unions as well as other trade unions representing millions of workers of India have been constantly and actively supporting SKM’s demands for repeal of the three Farm Laws and Electricity Bill, and for legal guarantee to MSP. Lakhs of workers had physically participated in the May 26 action call of SKM all over the country. In continuation of this expression of solidarity and support, ten Central Trade Unions have once again extended support to call of “Save Agriculture, Save Democracy” Day to be observed all across the country on 26th June 2021.

SKM has welcomed this expression of peasant-worker unity. SKM also declares its solidarity to the ongoing struggle of the workers for the repeal of the four Labour Codes and against privatisation of the public sector and other spheres. A meeting of the SKM and trade unions is expected to be held soon to ensure better coordination in the struggle.

Large contingents of farmers and supporters reaching different protest sites

Meanwhile, farmers continue to hold local protests and struggles to get fair and remunerative prices for their agricultural produce. While jowar farmers in Telangana were recently in the news for their continuous protests, milk producers in Maharashtra have also announced their agitation.

More protestors are reaching different morchas at Delhi Borders. A large contingent of farmers led by BKU Tikait started from Bulandshahr for Gazipur Border of Delhi. The protestors are coming in a padayatra here, covering more than 90kms by foot.

A protesting farmer ended his life at Khatkar Toll Plaza in Jind district of Haryana last night. It is reported that he was distressed at the lack of response from the government to the ongoing struggle.
