Karnataka Urban Local Body Elections: Congress Sweeps & BJP Weeps

Congress secures victory in the Bellary, Bidar, Bhadravathi, Ramnagara, Belur, Gudibande & Tirthahalli Urban Local Bodies. JDS Bags Two. BJP Wins One.

The results of the elections for Municipal Council and Urban Panchayats in Karnataka Urban Local Bodies, which was held across 8 districts on April 27 amidst the second wave of Covid-19, were announced today. Congress has won in most places while the JDS came second in the run while BJP has lost its face ending up third.

The Congress party has come to power after having won a landslide victory in the Bellary Municipal Corporation, Bidar-Bhadravathi-Ramanagar City Municipal Council, Belur Municipality, and Gudibande-Tirthahalli Town Panchayats.

The BJP has managed to secure a victory win in only the Madikeri Municipal Corporation while the JDS has come to power at two places – Channapatna Municipal Corporation and Vijayapura Municipality.

The Congress has bagged 119 seats out of the total of 266 wards.  44.73% of all the votes cast were bagged by Congress. The JDS won 67 seats bagging 25.18% of the votes. The BJP has won 56 seats with 21.05% votes.
