Farmers Union and other allied organizations from Karnataka had come together and united under the banner of Samyuka Horata – Karnataka to be part of the historic Farmers’ Movement. This day, marking a year-long struggle of the movement, Samyukta Horata – Karnataka as a part of Samyukta Kisan Morcha had called for Blocking of Key Highways across the state of Karnataka.
Farmers from Karnataka are not just pressing for the demands put – forth by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha to the Union government, but also are demanding that the Government of Karnataka must repeal anti-farmer ordinances and laws that it has been passed including the recently amended Land Reforms Act, APMC Act and the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Ordinance, 2020
At all these key highway points in Karnataka, Farmers have blocked the highway as a protest. Farmer leaders including Kodihalli Chandrashekar, Badagalapura Nagendra and Kuruburu Shantakumar amongst others had requested the public to join in support for the protests and to co-operate with the farmers.
1. Maurya Circle, Bengaluru
A protest meeting was organized at Bengaluru’s Maurya Circle wherein senior activist and writer BT Lalita Nayak read out the preamble of the constitution, signifying the upholding of constitutional rights and morality.
2. Bike Rally from Bengaluru’s Maurya Circle to Srirangapatna by Karnataka Janashakti:
A bike and car rally was flagged off from Bengaluru’s Maurya Circle that would culminate at Srirangapatna in Mandya District, wherein the activists would join for the highway blockade. Farmer Leader Kavita Kurugunti flagged off the Bike bike rally.
