Karnataka: Dalit man killed by Bajrang Dal Member

The police have not arrested the accused because they have strong political connections.

Belthangady, Karnataka: The members of the Congress and various progressive organizations have criticized the murder of Dalit youth allegedly by a Bajrang Dal member called Krishna in Belthangady taluk in Dakshina Kannada.

Dinesh (40) a Dalit man of Kanyadi village was allegedly murdered by Krishna. In the footage captured by the CCTV camera, Krishna was seen attacking with sharp objects.

Dharmasthala police has filed a complaint against the incident.

According to the reports, on February 23, Krishna was upset with Dinesh as he was reportedly supporter of the Congress party. Krishna claimed that he has done some land related documentation works of Dinesh.

However, Dinesh claimed that the Congress leaders have got his land documentation done. Krishna who was already angry with Dinesh, could not control his temper and began thrashing him.

He kicks Dinesh on his stomach and face. Returning home with excruciating pain, he tells the family about the incident.

Angry with Krishna, the family members quarrel with him and demand him to take care of Dinesh’s medical expenditure.

Krishna later gets Dinesh admitted to hospital on February 24. But he lies to the doctors and tells them that Dinesh got injured after falling off the stairs.

Dinesh who was suffering heavy internal injuries, succumbed in the hospital on February 25.

Dinesh’s mother Padmavati has filed a complaint with Dharmasthala police station against Krishna.

The police have filed case under SC atrocities act and murder case. The investigation is underway.

Krishna is said to be brother of Bhaskar, who is local Bajrang Dal member.

Speaking to gaurilankeshnews.com, social activist of Belthangady, Shekhar Layil said that the police have not arrested the accused because they have strong political connections. It is the murder case and also attracts punishment under SC/ST atrocities act. “ In order to demand arrest and seek justice, various organizations have called for a protest led by former MLA Vasant Bangera”, he said.
