  • Police have informed that they had found through the CCTV footages that a youth named Milind was found stealing the green flag from the mosque located near the statue.

An incident where a Green Flag had fallen on Sringeri Shankaracharya’s statue had come to light on Thursday (13th August 2020). However, the incident has taken major political turns over the recent developments. Rumours had spread that the green flag that had fallen over the statue was of SDPI (Social De)

In an attempt to create a rivalry between two communes, rumours were spread that the green flag belonged to the SDPI (Social Democratic Party of India). Sringeri’s Former MLA DN Jeevaraj was among the prominent ones who tried to give the incident a communal angle. A video of the conversation that he had with the police went viral.

BJP MP from the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Constituency Shobha Karandlaje tweeted that the SDPI and PFI were responsible for the incident and demanded that the organizations must be banned.

Here’s an archive of her tweet.

But now, it is being said that the flag that had fallen on Shankaracharya’s statue did not belong to SDPI. Also, Police have informed that they had found through the CCTV footages that a youth named Milind was found stealing the green flag from the mosque located near the statue.

The Print had reported that Chikkamagaluru Super Intendent of Police Hakai Akshay Machindra opined that there was a possibility of the flag could have fallen over Shankaracharya’s statue due to the wind. He has also said that the investigations about the incident were on.

Commenting on the case, SDPI Secretary of State Apsar Koodlipete said “Sankaracharya’s statue is not an SDPI flag. Our party unit is not even there. Some of the mischiefs of the majority of communists have deliberately put down a flag representing the pagan religion and tried to commit communal riots ”.

“The flag that had fallen over Shankaracharya’s statue is not of SDPI. We don’t even have a unit there. Former MLA Jeevavraj is behind this incident. The clashes in Bengaluru’s DJ Halli has been halted and the BJP has been unable to accept it. They are trying to spread it across the state. They have now embarked on a communal clandestine conspiracy to regain their place after losing the election. Also, footage of Milind stealing the flag from the mosque has been caught on CCTV footage stealing the flag. We demand an impartial investigation in the wake of all this and condemn this conspiracy. ”

Apsar Koodlipete has also said that they would also file a defamation case against Former MLA Jeevaraj. In this backdrop, police have arrested Milind and the investigation is in progress.
