The last time Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited their state, the Tamilians welcomed Modi with #GoBackModi. They have decided to welcome him that way again. The hashtag #GoBackModi is trending on Twitter ahead of PM Modi’s expected arrival in Madurai on Sunday, January 26.

PM Modi is in Madurai in Tamil Nadu for the foundation-laying ceremony of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences  (AIIMS).

BJP was part of a six-party coalition in 2014 consisting of the DMDK, the PMK and the MDMK headed by Vaiko. One seat was won by the saffron party and another seat by the PMK. However, all five sides later snapped ties with the BJP.

The visit of the PM comes in the wake of reports that BJP was attempting to stitch up an alliance with the ruling AIADMK to try to make inroads in the state where a player could hardly emerge from BJP. Ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the opposition DMK has already joined up with the Congress.

Most of the tweets dwell on the inability of the Prime Minister to address the protesting farmers, his absence after the shooting that killed 13 people in Thoothukudi, the failed implementation of NEET in the state that led to Anitha’s death in 2017.
