Farmers, ex-servicemen and youth of the country have joined hands to begin a sustained campaign against the disastrous ‘Agnipath scheme’ announced by the government of India
The inaugural Jai Jawan Jai Kisan Sammelan was held at Narwana, Haryana on 7th March 2022. The sammelan was against the Agnipath Scheme, and was jointly addressed by leaders of Samyukta Kisan Morcha and United Front of Ex-Servicemen, Hannan Mollah, Major Satbir Singh, Yogendra Yadav, Col DK Bhardwaj, Joginder Nain, Phool Singh Sheokand, Sudesh Goyath, Deepak Lamba.
Farmers, ex-servicemen and youths came together for a nationwide campaign against the Agnipath scheme.
The sammelan demanded immediate withdrawal of the Agnipath Scheme. The leaders also called for filling of all pending vacancies in the armed forces, completion of already initiated recruitment process, and immediate release and withdrawal of cases against the youths protesting against the scheme.
Over 500 people attended the sammelan and pledged to take this campaign to every village across the nation. On this occasion the leaders also visited a hundred-day long dharna by SKM for crop loss compensation and other demands of the farmers. The leaders complimented the farmers for their long struggle. The meeting resolved to continue the struggle against Agnipath Scheme as well.
A Jai Jawan Jai Kisan Rally was also held at Kolkata, West Bengal, which started from Ram Leela Park at Moulali and marched till Lenin Statue in Dharmatala.
This campaign aims to educate the public about the disastrous consequences of the controversial Agnipath scheme and compel the central government, by using democratic, peaceful and constitutional means, to roll back the scheme. If the farm laws were dire, the Agnipath scheme is disastrous. With our kisans and jawans in distress, the very backbone of our nation is in the danger of breaking. Our silence cannot be the reason for the government to bulldoze and destroy the protectors and feeders of the nation. We have stopped them once, we can stop them again.
On the call of Samyukta Kisan Morcha and United Front of Ex-Servicemen, Jai Jawan Jai Kisan Sammelans will be held across the nation from August 7 to August 14. The nationwide campaign will educate the public about the disastrous consequences of the controversial Agnipath scheme, and will continue until the scheme is withdrawn.
