Delhi Women´s college students harassed by men chanting Jai Shri Ram

According to the students, a large group of men from a pro-CAA rally that was happening near the college entered the college premises and sexually assaulted women students. Students demand principal resignation over her inaction in handling the situation.

Women students in Delhi´s Gargi college suffered mass harassment at the hands of a group of middle-aged men, who barged into the college annual festival, molested, and masturbated at the women students.

According to the students, a large group of men from a pro-CAA rally that was happening near the college entered into the college premises.

The men were drunk, groped the students, locked them in washrooms and misbehaved with them.

The incident took place on 6th February during the annual college fest ´Reverie´but due to election fervor, the news was suppressed. The incident came to light after some students of the Delhi University’s Gargi College took to Instagram to narrate their unpleasant experiences during the February 6 college fest.

Slowly by 9th Feb. women started sharing their stories of assault over Facebook and twitter and soon it became viral. many in shock that such a thing could happen in an all-women college in the capital city.

In a social media post that has now gone viral, the students of Gargi College have said, “There were drunk, middle-aged men harassing us, molesting us and masturbating at us… I was groped thrice by a group of men inside that crowd and when I screamed they laughed…”.

In another social media post it has been said, “Girls were groped, locked in washrooms, stalked to the nearby Green Park metro, cat-called, eve-teased and misbehaved with during the festival.”

Students allege that men came in trucks and entered the campus around 4:30 pm during the fest. They continued to harass the girls for several hours and the ordeal continued till around 9 pm.”

Many students are unhappy and naturally angry with the way authorities have responded. The principal of the college Promila Kumar has shunned all responsibility for the attack on her college students.

Today Delhi commission of women chairman Swati Maliwal visited the college and demanded Delhi police to investigate the case and arrest the culprits.

The national human rights commission team also came to the college to record the events of 6th Feb.

The students of the college have started protesting against the college inaction and demand the principal´s resignation.
