“We the People of India” Platform statement regarding Violence in Bangalore

In a democratic society, violence cannot be the answer to any problem. We also appeal to the media to report only facts and not share opinions in a manner that further heightens the tension.

PEACE MUST PREVAIL
LET US JOIN HANDS FOR PEACE
WE CONDEMN THE VIOLENCE AND VANDALISM AT DJ HALLI AND NEARBY AREAS IN BANGALORE
WE CONDEMN THE DEROGATORY, INSULTING SOCIAL MEDIA POST MADE ON THE PROPHET MUHAMMED
LAW MUST PREVAIL

DJ Halli and surrounding areas in Bangalore were witness to unfortunate, condemnable incidents of violence yesterday, as well as police firing to control the crowds. Three people have lost their lives to the firing, property of several people has been damaged and many have been injured.

The violence was allegedly due to a highly condemnable derogatory social media post against the Prophet Muhammed. Without any doubt, any act of offending religious feelings is unacceptable and detrimental to peace and any offence in this regard must be immediately acted upon by law enforcement agencies.   Every person has the duty to ensure that they respect all religions.

It is now of utmost importance that we maintain peace. No one should take the law onto their own hands. At a time when the entire city has already suffered due to the corona pandemic and unplanned lockdown, these kinds of incidents pushes people further into misery.

We appeal to all Bangaloreans to maintain peace. In a democratic society, violence cannot be the answer to any problem. We also appeal to the media to report only facts and not share opinions in a manner that further heightens the tension.

Several senior religious leaders like Maulana Muzammil Saab, the Ameer Ae Shariat Maulana Hazrat Sageer Ahmed Saheb have issued calls for peace last night itself as have many ordinary people and also Sri Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy, the MLA of Pulakeshinagar. Many Muslim youths also formed human chains to protect other places of worship as well.

We appeal to the people to not give into rumors and incitement, and to the police, to act impartially and investigate all of yesterday’s incidents, and ensure that no innocent person is targeted. Let’s all work towards maintaining peace and an immediate return to normalcy. Let us all come together as one to fight the pandemic and to fight any divisive efforts. Let violence not stand a place in our society.

Please join hands for peace.
