Delhi, 4th March, 2023: Samyukta Kisan Morcha has today condemned the CBI raids on farm leaders in Punjab. SKM says that these raids are nothing but an attempt by the BJP Union Govt to suppress and weaken the farmers’ movement that is seeing a huge resurgence all over the country to compel the Union Govt to fulfil all promises made to farmers.

On 21st February, CBI raided the premises of Harinder Singh Lakhowal, State President of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Lakhowal) and Satnam Singh Behru, National President of Indian Farmers Union. No information or search warrant was produced by the raiding party and thus no justification for the raids was made available to the farmer leaders. Under the guise of search, CBI officials vandalised and ransacked the premises and needlessly detained the farmers leaders for long hours. Cheque Books, Bank Pass Books, Letter Pads of the organisations and mobile phone of Shri Satnam Singh Behru were seized and no reason was given.

On 28th February, farm unions of Punjab submitted a memorandum to the President of India through the Governor of Punjab to protest against these raids.

On 13th March, SKM Punjab are planning to organise protests at district headquarters against these raids, and submit memoranda to district collectors.

According to SKM these raids are Modi Government’s revenge against the farmers for the historic farmers movement, which compelled the PM to withdraw the three anti-farmer laws.

SKM condemns these raids, and will continue with determined resistance against these tactics of intimidation and harassment. The issue of CBI raids and harassment will be vocally raised at the Kisan Mahapanchayat to be held in Delhi on 20th March, when farmers from all over the country shall gather to condemn the Modi Govt’s anti-farmer policies and actions.
