Opposition leader Siddaramaiah on Thursday termed the Enforcement directorate raids on Congress leaders Zameer Ahmed Khan and R Roshan Baig as a ‘political vendetta.’ The ED on Thursday conducted early morning raids on the houses of former seven-time MLA R Roshan Baig from the Shivaji Nagar constituency and former minister Zameer Ahmed Khan.

Defending his colleague, Congress leader Siddaramaiah called the ED raids on the party’s legislator Zameer Ahmed Khan as the BJP government’s means of scaring the opposition party by misusing its authority. He called the Income-tax raid and the ED raids a ‘deplorable act.’

Congress further asked why there was targeted selection of only congress MLA’s when there have been complaints lodged against BY Vijayendra, the state’s vice president for BJP and son of former CM Yeddyurappa.

Dismissing the claims of targeted selection, Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai said investigating agencies have their own methods of evidence-gathering and measures in place. Stating that filing a complaint does not warrant raids, the BJP leader said ‘Congress has become an expert in decoding these raids and alleging bias.’

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President DK Shivkumars said the raids were done conducted by the ruling government to target certain sections of the society. He did not deny when he was asked if he was referring to the Muslim community, he told ‘You can take it however you want. But the raids were intended to send out a message to them.’

The raids conducted were part of the investigation into the multi-crore IMA scam in Bengaluru. The Indian Monetary Advisory that came to light in 2019 involves a Ponzi scheme in which thousands of investors have been cheated upon. On Thursday, a team of over 100 officials belonging to the Enforcement Directorate landed in Bengaluru from Delhi to investigate the matter.
