Sasikanth Senthil, a 2009 batch Karnataka cadre IAS officer and Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, has resigned from the civil services on Friday.
In his statement, he said- “I feel it is unethical for me to continue as a civil servant in the govt when the fundamental building blocks of our diverse democracy are being compromised.”
In a letter, he says that his decision is purely personal and not connected with his current profile as DC of Dakshina Kannada district. “I must mention that the people and the public representatives of Dakshina Kannada district have been extremely kind to me and I owe an apology to them for discontinuing the job vested on me midway”. he said.
He also added- “I also feel strongly that the coming days will present extremely difficult challenges to the basic fabric of our nation and that I would be better off outside the IAS to continue with my work at making life better for all. It simply cannot be business as usual.”
Mr. Senthil hails from Tamilnadu and has studied Bachelors in Engineering (Electrical and Communication) from the Regional Engineering College of Bharathidasan University in Tiruchirapalli. He was Tamil Nadu’s topper in the 2009 UPSC exams and had 9th rank at the national level.
This is the second resignation to come in the last couple of weeks from an IAS officer. In August, Kannan Gopinathan, a Kerala cadre IAS officer submitted his resignation from the service in August over the lack of freedom of speech and the clampdown in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370.
