MSP Dilao Abhiyan, Mahapanchayats and Growing Support to the Protesting Farmers

Farmers yet again have shown by actively and peacefully participating in this blockade that their spirit is unaltered.

MSP

On the call of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, farmers carried out a peaceful blockade of the Kundli–Manesar–Palwal (KMP) Expressway and Kundli–Ghaziabad–Palwal (KGP) Expressway from 11 am to 4 pm on March 6, 2021. The blockade was organised to mark the successful completion of hundred days by the ongoing farmers’ movement. Farmers yet again by actively and peacefully participating in this blockade have shown that their spirit is unaltered. Nothing, including the extreme weather conditions of Delhi is a deterrent for the protesting farmers. The gathering of thousands of farmers yesterday at the highways showed the world that farmers are not leaving the borders as claimed by the mainstream media houses.

Mahapanchayats Everywhere, Farmers in South India stand with farmers protesting at Delhi borders

Farmers across the country are organising large mahapanchayats against the three farm laws. A mahapanchayat in Haryana’s Farmana Chaubisi was organised by the farmers. The farmers demanded to repeal the laws and legalise MSP. In Haryana, opposing the agricultural laws, the effigy of the Prime Minister was burnt in Turkiawas and Dahina. In Narayanganj, Mandla, farmers submitted a memorandum demanding the repeal of the anti-farmer laws. In Saundara in the Moradabad district, farmers held a panchayat under the leadership of National Alliance of People’s  Movement.

On completing hundred days of the farmers’ movement, farmers in many parts of South India protested by making human chains.  Farmers and concerned citizens made a human chain at Gunpark in Hyderabad.  A farmers’ conference was held in Nalgonda, Telangana to mark the day.

Mr Manohar Lal Khattar’s government faces a crucial no confidence motion on March 10, 2021. SKM has  appealed to all citizens of Haryana to approach each of their legislators, especially from Bharatiya Janata Party and Jannayak Janata Party, and ensure that the anti-farmer state government of BJP and its allies is defeated in this no confidence motion. In its statement the farmers’ organisation said, ‘let the MLAs of Haryana know that those who do not stand with farmers in this crucial juncture of the farmers’ movement will be taught a lesson by people in future.’

SKM has given a call to ‘MSP Dilao Abhiyan’ campaign. The campaign is getting stronger by exposing the false claims and promises of the Modi government. This campaign was carried out in Bellary after being launched in Gulbarga, in Karnataka on March 5, 2021.

Speaking at a press conference in Bengaluru today, Yogendra Yadav, a prominent member of the SKM said that the ongoing farmers’ movement is the largest protest in the history of India. He noted that these hundred days of farmers’ movement are the hundred days of the determination of farmers, lies and conspiracies of the government.

Yadav also noted that the efforts of the government are not being successful, ‘they tried to push down the farmers’ movement but the farmers have stood strongly against these efforts.’ Explaining the importance of MSP, the farmers’ leader gave an example from Bellary. MSP of Maize in Bellary for example is 1,850 INR and the market price on March 06, 2021 was just 1,459 INR. This is just not about maize but in general true for all the crops. Yogendra Yadav noted that this difference between the MSP and the market price is an indicator of ‘loot of the farmers.’
