Ashok Gasti is admitted to a hospital in Bengaluru after he was tested positive for COVID-19 a fortnight ago. Hailing from Raichur district in Karnataka, Gasti is a lawyer by profession and belongs to the Savita (Barber) community.

He took oath as a member of the upper house very recently but unfortunate that he could not participate in his first-ever parliamentary session as its member. He had served as chairman of the Backward Class Commission.
