Karnataka: BJP issues Show Cause Notice to Basangouda Patil Yatnal for questioning centre over Flood Relief

Meanwhile, amid mounting pressure, the Centre has announced Rs.1200 Cr. for Karnataka as flood relief

Amid criticism over the delay in releasing central funds for flood relief, The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday, October 4th, has issued a show-cause notice to party’s MLA from Vijayapura from Karnataka, Basanagouda Patil Yatnal who criticized his party in the centre for not releasing relief fund to Karnataka flood victims.

Yatnal had said- “This is beyond politics. This is about the emotions of the people. Even after the state suffered devastating floods, Modi didn’t tweet for us, but he did for the people of Bihar. People will ask if Modi tweeted for Bihar just because elections are approaching there. Is this what people get for voting the BJP? The party should take it seriously. Or else, it will Or else, it will lose its ground in south India,”

BJP´s disciplinary committee hasnt taken kindly to his words and has issued a show-cause notice to him for speaking against his own party.

The notice states- “As a sitting MLA of the Bharatiya Janata Party, you have given public interviews to TV channels… Threatened the party and its leaders by suggesting to the people of Karnataka and inciting them to teach party leaders a lesson by trashing them, thus calling for physical violence and causing unrest amongst people by spreading,”

“Your intent, utterances and allegations against the party and its leaders constitute a serious breach of the Party discipline as defined in the constitution and rules of the Bharatiya Janata Party,” the party Central Disciplinary Committee member-secretary Om Pathak said in his notice. Om Pathak accused Yatnal of spreading lies and making allegations against the BJP leadership, calling them “power centres”.

Taking serious note of party’s MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal statement against Prime Minister Narendra Modi led union government, he has been given 10 days time to the lawmaker to give an explanation for his angry tweets against the party.

Yatnal has asked the 25 MPS from BJP from karnataka to speak up about the flood relief efforts to centre.

“BJP has 25 MPs from Karnataka. They should speak up. It is their duty to protect people’s interests. The country is above the party, then comes our state, then our people, the party comes last. We as individuals come after that. The MPs should bring it to the Prime Minister’s notice. The Prime Minister should also take it seriously. Otherwise, it sends a wrong message to the people of Karnataka,” Yatnal had said.

The Saffron Party also accused MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal for spreading lies giving statements like party leadership is not paying attention to the issues of Karnataka in interviews to TV Channels.

Yatnal to face show cause Notice

Meanwhile, Responding to the show cause notice issued by BJP for Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, He said, “I will stand by my words. I have neither spoken against BJP nor PM Of India, instead I urged the Narendra modi to sanction relief funds in the earliest.”

“Many died due to flood in Karnataka. Their lives have been destroyed in the flood. When I see them in tears, I will also get tears. I have raised my voice for my people. I will be with my people, No one can scare me,” he told Media.

If the BJP continues to ignore the state, the party will lose the power in Karnataka which gave 25 MPs to Party. Centre is trying to sideline Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa by not allowing him to work. We won’t let it happen, we will fight it, he warns BJP.

Yatnal has been vocal for Flood victims demanding Central grant the relief fund to start work in North Karnataka. Yeddyurappa has been facing constant criticism from Congress and the JD(S), as well as he failed in getting enough relief funds from the Centre.

According to the official data 103 taluks in 22 districts were affected due to the floods in August. Over 80 people dead and 1.5lakh houses damaged, five lakh hectares of farm lands completely inundated.

CM BS Yediyurappa led government had submitted a report to the Centre claiming that the July-August floods caused loss of around Rs 35,000 crore.

On same day JD(S) would take out a padayatra in which party leaders, including former prime minister HD Deve Gowda and former MLAs, Zilla and panchayat members, would take part, demanding the state government to carry out relief and rehabilitation work swiftly to Karnataka.
