December 6, 1992 is considered to be a blot on the secular democracy ideal that India had been projecting itself to be. On this day mobs consisting of Hindu extremists and people who were instigated by the L K Advani’s infamous Rath Yatra and Uma Bharati and others’ hate speeches demolished a mosque in Ayodhya. The land where the mosque stood for centuries was a disputed land between the Hindu and Muslim communities in the region. This dispute was politicised and blown out of proportions by the BJP, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and other Hindu extremists groups. What followed was a communal unrest across the country.
Surendra Kumar Yadav gave a clean chit to the BJP leaders who were seen openly delivering hate speeches, the Supreme Court of India in its judgement on November 9, 2019, handed over the land to the Hindus. Ranjan Gogoi the Chief Justice of India who headed the five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court which delivered the verdict was appointed to be a MP in Rajya Sabha by the BJP government.
