BJP Leader Nitin Landge Arrested in a Corruption Case in Pune

As the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation standing committee’s chairman Landge had demanded Rs 10 lakhs to clear work order for ad hoardings in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

On Wednesday, the Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested BJP leader Nitin Landge, his four associates, including his personal assistant in Pune for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.18 lakhs.

The arrests happened after a raid conducted by the ACB following a complaint registered by a contractor who got the contracts from PCMC to put hoardings but later on Landge and his associates demanded a bribe from him to issue him a work order.

As the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation standing committee’s chairman Landge had demanded Rs 10 lakhs to clear work order for ad hoardings in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The deal was finalised in Rs 6 lakhs & the complainant was supposed to give Rs 1.18 lakhs as part of the installment, ANI reported.

On Wednesday afternoon an online meeting of the Standing Committee was held wherein approval was given for work worth Rs 31.66 crore which got over around 3 pm. The meeting was followed by there a discussion on some issues in the office of the PCMC Commissioner which got over around 4.30 pm.

The ACB raid took place after the meeting at the PCMC headquarters was over.

The ACB officials caught Landge associates while accepting the bribe on the ground floor. He was taken to the office of the Standing Committee Chairman and questioned along with other suspects. Later, Landge was also questioned. At around 7 pm in the evening, all the accused were taken into custody by the ACB team.

Keeping in mind the civic elections due next year BJP called the action “politically motivated” meanwhile the main opposition party in PCMC, NCP said that they were aware of rampant corruption and had been demanding action against the same.

“After the BJP came to power, corruption has reached every office and department of the civic body. We have been consistently raising the issue of corruption. We had even intimated the state government. The ACB action has proved that what the NCP was saying was right,” The Indian Express quoted Sanjog Waghere, the NCP’s Pimpri-Chinchwad unit president.

An FIR is being registered at Pimpri police station against the accused BJP leader and his associates under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, the Bureau said.
