Rampal Majra, Haryana BJP chief and former parliamentary secretary, condemned the infamous new law reforms and has quit BJP in support of the protesting farmers. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, he said, “I offer my unconditional support to the farmers protesting against the farm laws. These laws are not just anti-farmers but when implemented, would have a long-lasting impact on people from all walks of life.”

Majra, who was an elected representative for three terms had hopped to BJP from Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), just before the 2019 Vidhansabha election. He had criticised the farm laws in September last year and had called them ‘anti-farmer’. He had said that there is widespread concern regarding the Minimum Support Price (MSP).

Stating that the central government was responsible for the violence during the farmers’ tractor parade on January 26, Majra said that the government is disrupting and trying to dismantle a peaceful protest by farmers. More than one hundred and fifty farmers were martyred during the course of two months-long protests, Majra was enraged by the silence of the Prime Minister on the matter.

Majra also appreciated the decision of Abhay Singh Chautala, the chief of INLD, to resign from his position as a Member of Legislative Assembly, in support of the farmers protesting. He said, “this is a brave decision by Abhay. This would uplift the spirits of the protesting farmers.” Majra also insisted that the Chief Minister of Haryana should withdraw his support to the BJP government and come out in support of the farmers. Majra, a politician of four decades has not yet decided to join any other political party.
