Karnataka polls: As actor Kiccha Sudeep says he’ll campaign for BJP, JD(S) asks EC to block his ads till May 10
Kannada superstar Sudeep announced on April 5 that he would campaign for CM Basavaraj Bommai and BJP candidates for the May 10 elections.

The Janata Dal (Secular) party in Karnataka has written to the chief electoral officer of the Election Commission in Karnataka seeking to block the display and screening of advertisements featuring Kannada film star Kiccha Sudeep in the wake of the actor announcing his intent to play the role of a star campaigner for the BJP in the 2023 polls. The party claimed that this might influence the voters during the upcoming May 10 Karnataka assembly elections.

“The well-known film star Kiccha Sudeep has become a star campaigner for the BJP, and advertisements, posters, and promotional events featuring the actor must not be shown on television and print media until the conclusion of the Karnataka polls. Posters of the star must be removed from public places,” advocate and secretary of the JDS legal wing Pradeep Kumar has stated in a letter dated April 6 to the Election Commission.

The Kannada superstar announced on April 5 that he would campaign for Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and BJP candidates identified by him for the May 10 elections.

The actor, director, and producer Sudeep, hails from the Shivamogga district and commands a sizable fan-following by virtue of his status as one of the top five stars of the Kannada film industry. He hails from the Valmiki Nayaka community, a Scheduled Tribe group.
