On Republic Day, farmers in Karnataka held a tractor rally in opposition to the enactment of the three agricultural laws that have seen widespread opposition from farmers in the region. In Bengaluru, the ‘tractor parade’ emulates the tractor rallies carried out by farmers who have been camping on the border of Delhi for the past two months.

At 9 a.m., the tractor parade began at five different sites. Four of the five sites are on the outskirts of Bengaluru, while one rally began inside the city from the Krantivira Sangolli Railway Station. At Freedom Park in central Bengaluru, the five rallies converged quietly.

Farmer leader Kodihalli Chandrashekhar, speaking from the stage at the Freedom Park in Bangalore addressed a large gathering of farmers and workers from across the state. He said, “farmers in Delhi have made history. They have protested using lakhs of their tractors and this is the largest protest in the history of farmers’ movement. Some unpleasant incidents have taken place in Delhi and the protesting farmers are being maligned for these incidents. There is a limit for patience and the farmers have shown what happens when that threshold of patience is crossed. Anti-farmers’ ACTs must be repealed, tell us that you have repealed these ACTs and protesters would calm down.”
Shocked by the propaganda machines calling the protesting farmers, terrorists and Khalistanis, Chandrashekhar expressed his disdain towards this insensitive and unempathetic sentiments that are being sown. Enraged by such name calling the farmer leader asked, “how does one even muster words to call farmers terrorists. Is this how these people reward farmers who are responsible for them being fed?”
