Former chief of the Backward Classes Commission of Karnataka and a High Court lawyer, Dr. C.S. Dwarkanath has written a letter to the bar council demanding a strict action against lawyer Meera Raghavendra. Raghavendra was in news for smearing ink in the face of a renowned scholar K S Bhagwan in the premises of the 2nd ACMM court in Bangalore on February 4, 2021.

A complaint had been registered against senior writer Bhagawan pertaining his disrespectful comments about the Hindu religion. In due process of enquiry of the matter, the 2nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court had granted bail to the writer. This was followed by the incident of ink smearing on to Bhagawan’s face, as he walked out the court. On October 2,2020 Bhagawan had made remarks resulting in criminal case under IPC sections 298 and 505 being filed against him.

Condemning this act of Meera Raghavendra, Dwarkanath in his letter has said, “it is an ill intentioned conspiracy when you file a case on a person and attack that person when they, respecting the Court orders, appear in front of the court. Attacking the accused in the premises of Court would strongly discourage the accused from appearing before the court”. Dr. Dwarkanath also noted in his letter that it is shameful to see lawyers not believing in the legal systems that they are part of and taking laws into their own hands. He insisted that the bar council take an appropriate action against Raghavendra who he writes, “has put down the Court and the entire lawyers’ fraternity.”
