Samyukt Kisan Morcha has condemned the arrest of Disha Ravi, the 21-year old activist from Bengaluru who has now been taken into a 5-day custody by the Delhi Police. The umbrella of forty farmer organizations demands her immediate unconditional release.
SKM, in its statement released on February 14, has also condemned Haryana’s Agriculture Minister’s statement regarding the farmers who have died in the protests. The minister had said “The farmers who have died in Delhi Border would have also died in their village”, which has been severely criticized by many leaders. SKM said, “people would teach a suitable lesson for such arrogance”.
A Mahapanchayat with huge numbers was held at Indri in Haryana. SKM has said that the people remembered the martyred soldiers and farmers. It said, “Today, in the Kisan Mahapanchayat at Indri of Karnal, the sacrifice of India’s jawans and kisans in the current movement was remembered respectfully. SKM said that unlike the pseudo nationalism of BJP – RSS, farmers of this country are truly dedicated to protecting the country’s sovereignty, unity and dignity.”
SKM also condemned the government’s statement in Parliament that it has no data on dead farmers. SKM said “we are maintaining a blog site where such data is readily available if the government cares. It is the same callousness which resulted in the loss of lives so far”.
“Farmers resolve to fight unitedly, cutting across states and religions is getting stronger with each mahapanchayat despite the govt’s divisive efforts, it is only a matter of time that the govt has to accept all our demand,” the statement said.
