Republic TV Responds to Mumbai Police; Says ‘No Substantial Evidence’ for the Charges

The affidavit states that the case is falsely trumped up against the channel to suppress its 'fearless' reporting in Sushant Singh Rajput's case and Palghar Lynching case.

AGR Outlier Media Pvt. Ltd., the parent company of Republic TV has claimed in its affidavit response that the chargesheet of Mumbai Police in the TRP scam does not have any substantial evidence against the news channel.

The affidavit states, “The charge sheet though voluminous in weight is negligible in evidence against petitioners…the law-and-order officers have failed to establish a single shred of evidence against the company in their charge sheet”. This affidavit was in response to the charge sheet and reply filed by the Mumbai Police after the company challenged the criminal proceedings against it, Bar and Bench has reported.

The affidavit states that the case is falsely trumped up against the channel to suppress its ‘fearless’ reporting in Sushant Singh Rajput’s case and Palghar Lynching case. It also says that the charge sheet of the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police is an attempt to delay the hearing of the writ petition filed by the company.

AGR Outlier Media alleges that its top officials were falsely implicated in the charge sheet, and also claims that Assistant Vice President Ghanshyam Singh was physically and mentally tortured in the custody to “false self-incriminate and false implicate his own organization”.

On the issue of the leaked chats of Arnab Goswami and

Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) CEO Partho Dasgupta, the ARG Outlier Media contends that the chats have been “selectively leaked, twisted and doctored to create prejudice” and that they discredit the petitioners despite the fact that the chats have nothing to do with the TRP case and establishes no wrongdoing on the part of the petitioners.”

Finally, the affidavit highlights that the accusation of TRP cheating cannot be made clear unless the entities that have been cheated be the complainant, that is the advertisers and other media houses. It has also alleged harassment by the Mumbai Police to its employees, and has attempted to substantiate it with an audio recording from OpIndia with an alleged Mumbai Police Officer threatening a person to implicate Republic Bharat in the case.
