Tamil Nadu Chief Minister (CM) MK Stalin, on Wednesday, 2 February, wrote a letter to 37 leaders of key political parties, including Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, inviting them to be a part of the All India Federation for Social Justice to ensure ‘Everything for Everyone.’

Stalin had announced the launch of the All India Federation for Social Justice on India’s 73rd Republic Day on 26 January. He said his purpose was to bring to a common platform all leaders, members of the civil society, and like-minded individuals and organizations to strive towards “achieving the principles of federalism and social justice at the national level.”

Stalin sought the same unity and conviction as shown for the implementation of the Mandal Commission recommendations for quotas for Other Backward Classes in the 1990s.

The letter came a day after Stalin criticised the Union Budget and “One Nation, One Registration” for ease of doing business. He accused the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre of interfering with and snatching away the rights of the states.

A DMK release said the invite was sent to Sonia Gandhi (Congress), O Panneerselvam (AIADMK), Lalu Prasad Yadav (RJD), Farooq Abdullah (J&K National Conference), Sharad Pawar (NCP), D Raja (CPI), Sitharam Yechury (CPI-M), H D Deve Gowda (JD-Secular), N Chandrababu Naidu (TDP), Naveen Patnaik (BJD), Mamata Banerjee (TMC), Mehbooba Mufti (J&K PDP) and Uddhav Thackeray (Shiv Sena).

Arvind Kejriwal (AAP), K Chandrasekhar Rao (TRS), YS Jaganmohan Reddy (YSRCP), Hemanth Soren (JMM), N Rangasamy (NR Congress), Lalan Singh (JD-U), Akhilesh Yadav (SP), Mayawati (BSP), Pawan Kalyan (Jana Sena), Velappan Nair (AIFB), Asaduddin Owaisi (AIMIM), KM Khader Mohideen (IUML) were among others who were requested to join. Renu Jogi (Janata Congress), Amarinder Singh (Punjab Lok Congress), Sukhbir Singh Badal (SAD), Chirag Paswan (Lok Janshakti faction), Raj Thackeray (MNS), Om Prakash Chautala (INLD) were also invited besides Tamil Nadu parties, MDMK, PMK, VCK, MMK, and KMDK.

Stalin said only by ensuring this equality of opportunity can they build the egalitarian society visualised in the Constitution. He added reservations alone would not be sufficient and called for “extraordinary steps’’ to eradicate discrimination based on caste and gender. Stalin underlined the need for enabling people with disabilities to compete in the mainstream. “At every step, the oppressed must be accorded positive affirmation to enable them to unshackle centuries of oppression and exclusion from mainstream society,” Stalin said. “…the time has finally arrived to stand together as a true Union of States to achieve the… objectives.”
