The whole perception towards the incident has changed within two days as Chikkamagaluru police have got new evidence of the incident in the CCTV footage. Chikkamagaluru police have been able to solve the case under the supervision of Super Intendent of Police.
A tense situation arose when a green flag had fallen over Shankaracharya’s statue at Sringeri in Chikkamagalur District, Karnataka. The BJP and far-right organizations led by former minister Jeevaraj had protested. They had alleged that the flag belonged to the SDPI (Social Democratic Party of India) organization and that SDPI had worked behind the incident. They also had demanded the government to ban SDPI.
The best case in example is how Shobha Karandlaje, BJP MLA from Udupi-Chikkamagaluru, and Vice President of BJP in Karnataka tweeted that “SDPI had Planted flag over Shankaracharya’s Statue and had incited violence.”

However, the police have now cracked the incident by with the aid of CCTV footages that they collected and have arrested Milind – the accused. According to the Police, “Milind has stolen the flag from the mosque to when he was drunk and felt cold.”
The police had earlier had arrested Milind in a case of theft. People of some organizations had come into to get him released and in that backdrop, the investigation is continuing. It remains to be seen whether the same organization participated in the protests and wanted to shift the blame over to someone else.
Ever since the violence took place in Bangalore’s KG Halli and DJ Halli, the BJP and right-wing outfits have been actively demanding the banning of Popular Front of India (PFI) and Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).
