AG KK Venugopal gives consent to initiate contempt of Court against Kunal Kamra

Many in cluding Sr Advocate Dushyant Dave have raised objections in the manner Arnab Goswami case was heard on an urgent basis.

Atorney General KK Venugopal in his consent letter stated that Kunal Kamra’s tweets against the Supreme Court are “highly objectionable” and in his opinion “constitutes criminal contempt of court.”
The plea for contempt of court was filed by a law student Skand Bajpai.

Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra had tweeted on Justice Chandrachud who had given bail to Republic TV editor Arnab Goswami who got express hearing and bail in the suicide abetment case of a Mumbai Businessman and his mother.

Many including Senior advocate Dushyant Dave have raised questions in the manner Arnab Goswami case was being heard on an urgent basis while the court is closed for the Diwali holiday. A special vacation bench heard Arnab Goswami bail hearing and granted him bail yesterday.

Few months ago Senior advocate and Supreme court lawyer Prashant Bhushan was also on trial for contempt of court for commenting on SC judge SA Bobde. He was made to pa Re 1 as a fine.
